There is no limit to how many characters you can have; just please try to keep them all moderately active.
For the sake of keeping the population balanced we ask that for every two female characters you join, you join one male character. If the female:male ratio becomes higher than 3:1, the staff will enact a female ban until the ratio balances out.
Please post your application within five days of registering. Please do not post any work in progress applications because, quite frankly, it's not a very long or difficult application. Fill the application out carefully and don't screw around with the code. The title of your application must be as follows: LASTNAME, first name (middle name optional). For example: RONDO, Rajon Pierre.
This is an intermediate-advanced roleplay. Your acceptance is based on the following criteria: proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization; character depth and originality; and writing sample. We want to know that you have honestly put thought into your characters; we don't need (or want, really) applications that are 50,000 words long, but we want enough content to give us honest insight into your character. Your character's personality must be three good sized paragraphs (six to eight sentences) at the very least. Please wait to be accepted before you post anywhere but the Applications board.
The name of the game is Beckett College, but that doesn't mean you have to join a college student! Blackwood may be small, but it's a vibrant little town full of all kinds of people, from small time celebrities to the average joe.
Please keep in mind the fact that Beckett College is a rather selective little school and not everyone can gain acceptance. If your character ditched class often, was suspended once a month, and flunked or got D's in most of their classes, they would not be able to attend Beckett. However, this is not an Ivy League school and your character doesn't have to be a valedictorian with straight A's to get in. Exceptional, above average, and most average students would have no problem getting in.
While horses and riding are a big part of Blackwood and Beckett College, absolutely NO knowledge of horses and riding is required to join since it is not mandatory that all students or people in town be riders. However, if you would like to join a character that rides, real life riding experience is strongly recommended. If you have none but would still like to play a character on the equestrian team, you can either do some research on the internet and ask the owners (we're both riders ourselves) for some help when you need it, or simply make the character a new rider who doesn't know anything about the sport themselves.
As soon as you are accepted, you may: claim your character's play-by, cell number, email, and screenname; post a user profile; post a plot page; and start writing!

Exercise a little common sense. Don't try to pass George Clooney off as a thirtysomething and don't try to convince us any of the Disney tweens are twenty-two.

We ask that you at least log on to all of your accounts once a week to check for updates, let us know you're still alive, all of that kind of stuff. We really aren't very anal about how often you post, but if it gets down to something like twice a month, we will definitely be speaking to you.
If you are going to be gone for a week or longer, please let us know slightly ahead of time when you will be leaving and when you will be returning.
If you're having tech problems and don't have the internet or even a computer, don't fret. Post a quick note in the c-box from your phone or a computer at school, or have another player or a friend let us know your situation. If nothing like that works, just let us know your situation whenever you get back and we won't hold it against you. Technology can be a real pain in the ass and we know this firsthand.
We WILL be having activity checks. As of now there is no set time or system for when we will be having them. Most likely they will occur when activity is either very high or very low, when it is easiest to weed out any players who have gone inactive.

Our minimum word count is 500. If you consistently do not meet this requirement, the staff will be speaking with you. If you still do not meet the requirement, you will be deleted from the site.
However, we place quality over quantity always. We all have off days, so if a post here and there is three or four hundred words but still a pretty good post, we're not going to get on your ass about it. Long and rambling posts can be nice, but when they're long just to meet a word count requirement they're generally not very good. If you're not a proficient bs'er, don't feel too stressed out to pad a post because we're pretty lenient on infrequent short posts.
We are all adults here; violence, sex, drugs, and cursing are all allowed. If any of this offends you, this is not the game for you.
Crazy, original plots are great, but not when they're too outlandish. If something you're planning includes pregnancies, death, etc, please check with the staff. We don't need two pregnant teenagers and someone falling off their horse and dying every week.

Students who are boarding their own horses at BEC may also choose to work to pay off board. Three students may work as grooms/exercise riders, and two students may give lessons to local children. If you are interested in this, please check the Barn Info thread in The Office for position availability.
The rules for stallions are pretty simple. Stallions may be ridden by riders of an appropriate skill level eighteen and up while under adult supervision. Around the age of twenty supervision is not required but still recommended. Stallions can be boarded as long as they can be handled by at least one other person, most likely Rob.
Students may take anywhere from one to five lessons a week, one being the minimum. Students who own their own horse must still take at least one lesson a week on a lesson horse.
